This study investigates the temporal dynamics of imagined speech, specifically focusing on the Mu rhythm (alpha and beta frequency bands) as a biomarker to track the transition from motor execution to auditory imagery. Study Design and Methodology:. The research utilized a comparative paradigm to map the neural timing of imagined speech against a behavioral reference of overt speech using Magnetoencephalography (MEG). Overt Speech Pre-test: Participants underwent an initial test to collect individual estimates of speech production latency. Across the group, the median onset to initiate speech was 412 ms., Imagined Speech Task: Using the overt onset as a temporal anchor, participants were prompted to imagine speaking target syllables (/pa/, /ta/, /ka/)., Neural Analysis: The study focused on Event-Related Desynchronization (ERD) in the alpha and beta bands (Mu rhythm), which reflects sensorimotor activity and its subsequent reactivity.
