Robotic TMS with Neuronavigation: The New Standard in Precision Medicine

The clinical efficacy of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is heavily dependent on targeting accuracy and the ability to maintain that target throughout a session. By combining Robotic Automation with MRI-based Neuronavigation , clinicians can now eliminate human error and ensure that every pulse is delivered to the exact anatomical coordinate required. The Synergy of Localite & Axilum Robotics:. This integrated solution transforms a manual, high-fatigue task into a streamlined, automated process:. MRI-Guided Planning (Localite): Before stimulation begins, the Localite system uses the patient’s individual MRI data to identify the precise cortical target (e.g., the DLPFC for depression or the motor cortex for rehabilitation)., Automated Pilotage (Axilum): Once the target is set, the Localite software "pilots" the Axilum Robot. The robotic arm automatically moves the MagVenture coil into the optimal position and orientation relative to the patient’s head., Real-Time Motion Tracking: If the patient moves during the 20-30 minute session, the optical tracking system detects the shift in milliseconds. The robot then actively adjusts the coil position to compensate, maintaining a constant "target-to-coil" relationship without clinician intervention. Technical Advantages:. Constant Contact Force: An integrated sensor ensures the coil maintains consistent pressure against the scalp, which is vital for maintaining the correct electromagnetic induction depth., Millimeter Precision: Manual placement typically has a drift of several millimeters; robotic navigation keeps the deviation under 1-2mm., High Repeatability: Ensure that Session 1 and Session 30 are identical, regardless of which technician is operating the system. Clinical & Research Impact:. Whether mapping the primary motor cortex for presurgical planning or delivering repetitive TMS (rTMS) for psychiatric disorders, robotic neuronavigation provides a level of data integrity that manual placement cannot match. It allows for higher patient throughput and more reliable clinical outcomes by standardizing the most variable part of the treatment: the human element.
