BESA

The industry leader of innovative solutions in digital EEG and MEG software, BESA supplies five modules designed for clinical and research applications in neurophysiological data analysis. The BESA Research 7.1 encapsulates 30 years of research experience into a highly versatile, user-friendly Windows program. It provides optimised tools and scripts to preprocess data for source and connectivity analysis. Second, the BESA MRI 3.0 is the first software that supplies an intuitive, convenient interface with an integrated workflow that can guide the user to generate individual head models (BEM/FEM) applied for either EEG or MEG source analysis. Third, the BESA Statistics 2.1 is the latest update with revamped workflows to perform t-test, single-factor ANOVA, and correlation analysis of data applied with parameter-free cluster permutation statistics to easily solve the multiple-test problems. Fourth, the BESA Simulator, a software developed to effortlessly simulate evoked and induced brain activity achieved with the placement of sources in the brain, assign it a time course, then save data with an electrode layout of your choice. Lastly, the BESA Connectivity 1.0 provides an optimised workflow for time-frequency, connectivity analysis of EEG or MEG data, and streamlines performance to provide multiple combinations of input data types, time-frequency methods, and connectivity measures.

Software for EEG and MEG research

BESA provides state-of-the-art scientific analysis tools covering the complete range of neurophysiological applications. We strive to bring you the latest methods for advanced EEG and MEG analysis in a user – friendly and optimized implementation. BESA is the most widely used software for source analysis and dipole localization in EEG and MEG research.

BESA offers four different products which cover many usage scenarios in neurophysiological data analysis in EEG and MEG.

BESA Research

Choose the best signal processing for your EEG and MEG data

BESA Research is a highly versatile and user-friendly Windows program with optimized tools and scripts to pre process raw or averaged data for source analysis and connectivity analysis. All important aspects of source analysis and source imaging are displayed in one window for immediate selection of a wide range of tools. The same holds true for the source coherence / time-frequency module, and other analysis windows. BESA Research provides fast and easy hypothesis testing, a variety of source analysis algorithms including cortical imaging and volume imaging methods, integration with MRI and fMRI, age-appropriate template head models (FEM) as well as the possibility to import individual head models (BEM and / or FEM) generated by BESA MRI.

BESA MRI

BESA MRI is software to generate individual head models (BEM / FEM) that can be used for EEG and / or MEG source analysis. BESA MRI also allows co-registration of EEG / MEG data with individual MRI data, and visualization of dipole solutions generated in BESA Research in the individual anatomy. BESA MRI is the first software that offers an easy, intuitive interface with an integrated workflow guiding the user step-by-step

BESA Statistics

Dedicated workflows allow you to perform t-test, single-factor ANOVA, and correlation analyses of your data using the parameter-free cluster permutation statistics which so elegantly solve the multiple-test problem. Several new input data types were added to this pipeline, in order to ensure that time-frequency analyses and connectivity analyses are now fully supported.

Highlights:

  • Configurable slice view is available for image data.
  • The data values are displayed on mouse-over in the detail windows.
  • Time-frequency data can be read with the correct (logarithmic) frequency spacing.
  • Single-trial time-frequency data can now be read in the t-test workflow
  • There is no upper limit on the number of data files imported into the workflow.
  • A new image export format is available
  • Screenshots and cluster summary results can now be copied to the clipboard

BESA Simulator

Create your own evoked and induced data

BESA Simulator is the perfect tool for simulating evoked and induced brain activity. This free software developed by Patrick Berg allows you to place your sources in the brain, assign them a time-course and save your data with an electrode layout of your choice. You can simulate average data or raw data choosing your own real dataset for overlaying the modelled activity. This allows simulating induced data, as well as evoked data. Use the simulated data to examine your source or coherence analysis techniques.

BESA Connectivity

BESA Connectivity provides optimized, user-guided workflows for time-frequency and connectivity analysis of EEG/MEG data. Multiple well-established methods are provided. They were optimized for stream-lined performance that yields results for multiple combinations of input data types, time-frequency methods, and connectivity measures.
