Localite

Localite has developed unique medical navigation and planning systems for research and therapy and engages actively in research projects. Since the company was founded in 1999 as a result of a prize-winning human computer interaction project of today’s Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology, it’s usability has been a primary requirement of product development. Today, Localite consistently cooperates with well-known researchers and has maintain an active involvement in government funded research projects. These collated insights has been integral in the company’s guarantee the development of their products with user demands. With the intention to transform results of state-of-the-art research into pragmatic solutions for the health sector with ergonomical software development, Localite has developed two solutions to transform research support. Read the article below to find out more about the TMS navigator and EEG pinpoint.

Navigator for TMS Coil & EEG Electrode placement

TMS Navigator

The Localite TMS Navigator is a navigation system for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) which is configurable according to user requirements. With Localite TMS Navigator, plan stimulation areas, monitor and record the correct positioning of the patient and coil. With pragmatic workflows to improve clinical routine or comprehensive features to address new research topics — Localite TMS Navigator adapts to your demands. Choose any of the three editions of the TMS navigator, specifically the classic, MR-compatible, and robotic edition, to improve clinical routine with comprehensive features to address new research topics.

The Classic Edition

Available with or without MRI based systems, operate navigation based upon an individual MRI dataset or using an individually adapted standard model. Choose the MR-Based System if you like to navigate using individual MRI data. You will experience extensive possibilities to utilize individual anatomical as well as functional data and to plan magnetic stimulation. The MR-Less System supports navigated stimulation even if no individual MRI is available. For this purpose a standard dataset will be warped to match the individual’s head. Coil positions will be documented and can be safely reproduced in subsequent sessions. These options are not mutually exclusive: Both variants can be combined in your configuration.

Configurable Components

Extending the essential editions you are offered the possibility to configure hard- and software components individually. As result you will receive a system that is tailored to your specific demand and suits to your budget.

With functional data, the classic edition allows to import functional MRI or nuclear medicine images. The supported data formats are: DICOM, NIfTI, Analyze and Interfile. To map functional data onto anatomical data Localite TMS Navigator features intuitive step-by-step registration procedures. As soon as images are co-registrated functional information can be overlayed and the visualization can be adjusted in color and opacity. Thus, pre-interventional functional data can be incorporated to improve planning of stimulation.

In regards to EEG, each step users are guided through the acquisition of electrode positions. Seamlessly select the applicable EEG system from a list of predefined patterns — or simply create one by yourself. Even without anatomical data you are able to export the patterns into different coordinate systems (DICOM, MNI, Talairach).

With the MagVenture Stimulator Connection package,it links your MagVenture Stimulator with your TMS Navigator. From now on information like temperature or amplitude will be displayed directly in the software interface. Moreover, communication is also possible the other way round — important parameters can be transmitted to the stimulator. This simplifies the process, because information you would enter manually can now be exchanged automatically. With the Stimulation Response export, send stimulation data (location, amplitude) along with the acquired stimulation responses (e.g. MEP) as functional image data. Thus, this allow users to create a comprehensive documentation of stimulation and its effects. The resulting image data can be imported into a navigation system again any time later.

The MR-Compatible Edition

Built upon a team with a strong scientific background Localite is a perfect partner for addressing advanced scientific challenges. The Localite TMS Navigator evolves continuously as a result of ongoing cooperations with renowned brain researchers. Our team strives to meet our high standards in functionality and quality not only today but also in the future. This is the reason why Localite TMS Navigator is used in university hospitals and research institutions worldwide. With the MR-compatible edition, it is an especially adapted version of Localite TMS Navigator to function in the MR environment. Long lasting experiences out of research cooperations with interventional MRI made this solution possible. Carefully selected materials and special electronical filters allow to operate the navigation systeme side-by-side with the tomograph.

The Robotic Edition

The robotic edition of the localite TMS navigator boasts high standards of automatic coil positioning. In cooperation with Localite partner Axilum Robotics SAS, this fully automated robotic edition assists TMS with patient safety, accuracy, and seamless usability. The main enhancements of this edition is the intrinsical safety of the robot by design, automatical compensation of patient movement, creation of complex stimulation scenarios, feedback based repositioning of coils, and the robotic edition can be equipped with all necessary components to be used without the robot.

EEG Pinpoint

The Localite EEG (electroencephalography) PinPoint is based on optical tracking and offers the possibility to acquire EEG electrode positions easily with sublime accuracy. With the competitive advantage of high precision of the acquired data during subsequent processing, and extensive experience of Localite with EEG systems are featured with outstanding ergonomics and robustness.

This system features an electrode acquisition wizard to guide users after selecting the active EEG system.  Besides the number of predefined EEG patterns arbitrary patterns with electrodes and anatomical landmarks can be defined easily.
Within the wizard all electrode positions will be acquired with the pointer.
Afterwards the acquired positions can be reviewed and exported. For the export several export configurations are provided. All established data formats are supported. Additionally new export data formats can be integrated in the system in a simple way.

The EEG PinPoint Plus

The EEG Pinpoint Plus achieves the highest precision is designed with the original EEG PinPoint features and an individual MRI data set that is used to localise the electrode positions. First the image data needs to be registered onto the patient in an intuitive and well-proven two-step procedure known from our LOCALITE TMS Navigator. Then the electrode positions can be acquired with the pointer. To export the acquired electrode positions different coordinate spaces of the used image data set as well as standard coordinate spaces are available.
